Smart Anglia connects the strong local presence of high-tech companies across East Anglia, with the knowledge of our Universities and colleges and the partnership of the public sector, to deliver smart technology solutions.
Smart cities use information and communication technologies (ICT) to become more intelligent and efficient in the use of resources, resulting in improved service delivery, personal security, quality of life, education, and economic growth, while at the same time reducing environmental footprint and enabling a sustainable low-carbon economy. Smart City projects are enabled by connecting municipal services such as smart traffic systems, street lights, public safety, electricity, gas and water services through a variety of communication networks. Each Smart City application is developed to achieve one main purpose, and it only makes sense that these silo applications will soon share information between them through standard interfaces and data sources that will allow them to improve service and benefits.
We aim to coordinate ‘living lab’ trials and to stimulate the large-scale roll out of smart solutions. By 2020 we expect the Anglia region to be internationally recognised for its coordinated application of smart technologies and to have established a vibrant community of smart businesses.
We have established a ‘smart’ businesses network in the Anglia region allowing companies to share experiences, gain access to experts in the field and attend various networking events.
Smart communities utilise the increasing ubiquity of smart phones, sensors, cloud computing and broadband to create more sustainable, efficient and effective outcomes.
Smart technology can improve performance, improve communications, integrate data and information, and contribute to better decision making.
